Over two hundred people benefitted from a 2-day Free Medical and Evangelical Mission organized by the Charismatic Renewal Ministries, CRM in collaboration with Helping Team International, HTI and Odumehaje Christian Medical Mission, OCMM in Gonin Gora Community, Kaduna State, Nigeria. The outreach took place from the 24th- 26th/ November, 2023.
The CRM Senior Pastor in Gonin Gora, Dr. Julius Olajire said the program was part of efforts to combine both medical and spiritual approaches to minister to the body and souls of the people to help them see the love of God despite the current Socio-economic hardship in the Country.
He said the free medical outreach which featured Consultations, eye care, dental surgeries, counseling and drugs administration for different ailments was a moment of restoration, refreshing and a new beginning for them.
Pastor Olajire maintained that the church would continue to pray for divine intervention towards bringing to an end the myriad of challenges such as the insecurity and economic hardship facing the Country.
The clergyman called on political office holders to use their various positions to serve both God and humanity to better their lives and improve the socio-economic wellbeing of the citizens as a whole.
Speaking also at the sideline of the events, a consultant family physician Dr. Fidelis Ajuonuma stressed the need for a universal Health Coverage especially for low income families to address the associated Health Challenges in the Country.
He said accessing proper Health care services through Insurance Schemes by families within their communities without any financial burden is the panacea to having a healthy nation for growth and development.
The medical expert pointed out that paying for medical services out of pocket could lead to catastrophic health expenditure, and would affect family income and wellbeing.
According to Dr. Fidelis, most of the beneficiaries were discovered during the program to be anemic, others he said had high blood pressure, stress ulcers due to worry, anxiety and poor diets, which he attributed to the prevailing economic hardship in the country.
He identified coping strategies to include change of lifestyles, having proper diet, relaxation, regular exercises and routine medical check ups and counseling among others which he described as lifestyle medicine.
The Consultant Family Physician pointed out the need for spirited individuals, corporate and non governmental organizations to partner groups and religious bodies in carrying out medical outreach to touch lives Meaningfully.
“What I discovered from the interviews with the patients is that, because of the prevailing circumstances, a lot of people don’t eat well again, most of these women and the children are anemic, they will prefer to let their children eat and then they can manage whatever is left. Some may just eat once a day, and they are developing stress ulcers and other health challenges.
In line with WHO, people everywhere should have access to Health Care that they need without financial stress attached, and that is possible by health insurance.”
In a message during the crusade, the HTI/ OCMM Chiarman and CEO, Dr. Paul Odumu spoke on the “Restoration of Power to The Church” charged the people to serve God faithfully in obedience and sacrifice to attract his divine intervention for total restoration.
Reading from Luke 10:19, the medical consultant pointed out that, the place of God in achieving greatness and total healing cannot be overemphasized, and expressed the need for the church to be in readines for continued prayers and organizing health and evangelical programs to solve the health and welfare needs of the people.
He enjoined Nigerians to return to God and serve him in truth and spirit to attract divine attention for total upliftment and restoration.
