Frankly, healthcare services for rural communities in Nigeria are terrible, and believe me when I say this is by far an understatement. Besides the dilapidated worn out health facilities passed down from generation to generation, the shortage or complete absence of medical personnel in the available facilities is another major problem. Patients have travelled long distances to access healthcare nearest to them, only to discover on arrival that no medical personnel are on ground. While few have been lucky to survive it, many have lost their lives. This is largely because rural communities have less access to social amenities than urban communities do. In addition, civil servants in rural communities are paid little to nothing as salaries, therefore, health workers would rather settle for jobs in the city than work in the rural clinics and hospitals.
One major objective of OCMM is to bring qualitative healthcare to the doorstep of members of the underserved communities in Nigeria, and in doing so, bridge the existing healthcare gap between the urban and rural communities. We host free medical outreaches across Nigeria and collaborate with government or private organizations and individuals to establish standard clinics and hospitals in rural communities.
So far, we have hosted such outreaches in 20 local government areas in different states across Nigeria, and touched 900,000 lives with our free medical services since 2007.
This year, our outreach holds in Agaliga-Efabo community of Kogi state. The goal is to improve the access of 5000 community members to qualitative healthcare within a week. In collaboration with Raymond Akor foundation, our team of qualified health personnel will work tirelessly to improve the quality of healthcare available to community members and ensure that their lives are saved.
While we work towards achieving this vision, we ask for your support. Donations of pharmaceutical and medical consumables/equipments will be appreciated. As OCMM team members look forward to this great event, we can’t stop wondering about the health condition of sick members of this community after we leave. They will be forced to fall back to the dilapidated clinic and poor healthcare available to them. However with your donations and support, we can provide a permanent, qualitative and sustainable health facility for her members.
In the end, we desire to see that all rural communities in Nigeria have access to quality and affordable healthcare. We look forward to a future where healthcare in every community is in walking distance to every community member, and a time where people won’t need to travel all the way to town to access healthcare.
We remain committed to improving the healthcare of the underserved, one community at a time.
